Forgetting God

Disregarding God

To disregard God can take many forms. Some people completely say that there is no God. Others know in their hearts that God exists but they do not acknowledge Him, they just live as if there is no God. Others have disregard for the Word of God, though they profess to be Christians if you preach to them the Truth as recorded in the Bible they will call you names like extremist, holier than thou or Jesus freak. Others have disregard for the things of God like the Temple of God both the physical place of worship and the body which is the temple of God where He lives by His Spirit whom we have received when we got born again.
A person with disregard for God will use the alter of God to make money, preaching the gospel of their own stomach. A gospel that glorifies themselves and not God. You can find someone with disregard for the things of God Whatsapping nonsense in church or doing their make up in church.
The sons of Eli were like this; they had disregard for the house of God and for the offerings of God which actually meant that they did not fear God. They died in their youth.

1 Samuel 2:12 Eli’s sons were wicked men; they had no regard for the Lord.

Displeasing God

There are many things we can do that can displease God. Below are few examples that show us that complaining, injustice and despising children displeases God. We should therefore seek the guidance of scriptures and the Holy Spirit in order not to displease God

Numbers 11:1 And when the people complained, it displeased the Lord: and the Lord heard it; and His anger was kindled; and the fire of the Lord burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp.

Isaiah 59:15 Truth is nowhere to be found and whoever shuns evil becomes a prey. The Lord looked and was displeased that there was no justice.

Mark 10:14 But when Jesus saw it, He was much displeased, and said unto them, suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

Dishonouring God

Sometimes we may have regard for God and yet fall short in giving God the full honour due to Him. Sometimes we can even give great honour to influential people like celebrities, government officials or church leaders and yet fail to give the Creator of all heaven and earth even the same honour and that’s not okay.
God is a Jealous God, we have to be careful not to rouse His jealous.
If you are African like myself, most of us have the culture of greeting elders on our knees and I don’t see anything wrong with it, the problem comes about when it comes to God you pray while sitting on your chair.
We can dishonour God when we pay our bills, fees etc in full and on time but to God we find excuses and we withhold offerings and tithes to God.

Malachi 1:6 “A son honours his father, and a servant his master. If I am a Father, where is the honour due me? If I am a Master, where is the respect due me?” says the Lord Almighty…

Disobeying God

Disobedience also carries many forms. It is a form of rebellion. It is to know the truth and the right path but to choose not to walk in it.
Saul is one of the people who disobeyed God. God gave him a direct and specific command which he partially fulfilled. He disobeyed God’s command and spared some animals and people he had been told to completely destroy. Prophet Samuel told Saul that to obey is better than sacrifice.

1 Samuel 15:22-23 But Samuel replied: “Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams. For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry….

Deuteronomy 27:10 Thou shalt therefore obey the voice of the Lord thy God, and do his commandments and His statues

It is a very easy thing to disregard, displease, dishonour and disobey God and it can be hard to regard, please, honour and obey God but we should remember that the road that leads to life is narrow. We should also remember that on our own we can do nothing but it is by the Spirit of God that we learn to regard, please, honour and obey God.

When we do this walk in the greatest command to love God with all our hearts, soul and mind.
